Parametric Torso Designed from scratch - Baltic Birch with Oak dowels and Sapele base
Parametric Design
Female torso made from 0.25 Inch Baltic Birch and Oak dowels.
Artist
Ben McAllister
This full-scale female torso sculpture is made from precision-cut layers of ¼" Baltic birch plywood, stacked and spaced with wooden dowels to form a clean, dimensional figure. Set on a solid African mahogany base, the piece stands tall and balanced, showing off both form and material. The layered structure gives it a striking depth while keeping the overall design light and open.
This Parametric Torso Designed from scratch took serious some work:
Original concept and 3D modeling in Rhino.
A mockup and testing phase which proved crucial in ironing out unforeseen issues, especially at the assembly phase.
CNC cutting, lots and lots of sanding, and final assembly.
Finally, I sprayed coats of lacquer on each piece individually before final assembly - then sprayed a few more coats for good measure.
